Training is every Wednesday night at 7PM. On many occasions throughout the year, special drills with other departments are set up and they will be listed here. Some of these special drills involve things such as live burns, motor vehicle extrication training with the jaws of life, touring large facilities for pre-planned fire fighting operations, setting up mutual aid water supply operations, safety and procedural classes with the MEDIVAC choppers, going to the live burn center in East Kingston, and OSHA training.
OSHA training is an annual 8hr course that is mandatory. for each firefighter, each year. Normally, we sign up with the Rosendale Fire Department as members of the training center. Along with this membership, they come to our firehouse and give us the OSHA course each year. Usually, we have it for four hours one night at the Rosendale firehouse and the other four hours at our firehouse. It involves such things as using your turn out gear, emergency driving, firehouse safety, fire police operations, handline use, understanding of utility wires, using Self Contained Breathing Apparatus(SCBA), hazardous materials, blood born pathogens, and many other topics.
In house training here will involve SCBA, pump operations. ladder and rope training, jaws of life, AED, water supply, portable pumps, chain saws, demo saws, use and care of turn out gear, radio communications, laws, fire extinguishers, air bags, EMT equipment, and foam.
